HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has once again written to Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, seeking the Centre’s intervention in resolving pending issues related to the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, including the halt in loan disbursals by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) and approvals for the proposed Metro Phase-II expansion.
In an open letter on Saturday, the Chief Minister requested Kishan Reddy to facilitate a meeting with Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his (Revanth Reddy’s) visit to Delhi on June 22 and 23. Revanth Reddy said an early resolution of the pending matters was essential for the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), which he described as a critical urban infrastructure project for Hyderabad and Telangana.
Referring to his letter dated June 16, the Chief Minister recalled that he had brought to the Centre’s attention several unresolved issues concerning the HMR projects. These include the proposed takeover of Phase-I, loan agreements involving IRFC and the delay in securing approvals and support from the Centre for Phase-II.
Revanth Reddy said he would bring along copies of documents related to the HMR takeover proposal, agreements concerning IRFC financing and the Phase-II project proposals for detailed discussions with the Union railway minister.
The Chief Minister said the meeting would provide an opportunity to place all relevant facts, agreements and supporting documents on record and help arrive at a solution to the issues that have been pending for some time.
He requested Kishan Reddy to inform him once the meeting was scheduled.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the Centre would extend the necessary support for the HMR project, which is expected to play a key role in meeting the mobility requirements of the rapidly expanding metropolis.
