Revanth Plans Cricket Stadium In Future City

HYDERABAD: Preparations are under way to build a world-class cricket stadium on 100 acres of land in Bharat Future City, with a seating capacity to rival that of the 1.32-lakh seater Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. Conceived by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state-of-the-art facility will be modelled on the England’s Lord’s and renowned Australiam stadiums.

The foundation stone for the project, planned as a joint venture with the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), will be laid in December. According to CMO sources, once completed the stadium will gain recognition as one of the best in the world. Following the Chief Minister’s directive, officials are searching for a location within the Future City for the stadium. The stadium is planned with a seating capacity exceeding that of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. Estimates are being finalised, but construction costs are also expected to surpass those of the Gujarat facility.

Under the joint venture, the BCCI will bear construction and operational costs, while the state government will allocate the land. Officials are expediting the process to formalise the partnership. Sources said the stadium will benefit from excellent accessibility, with proximity to the Outer Ring Road, the proposed Regional Ring Road, the planned Metro Rail extension to Future City, and Shamshabad airport.

The sports complex will be a key component of the Future City development. The Uppal stadium will be redesigned to accommodate not only cricket but also other sports. Provisions are being made to host football matches and large-scale concerts. With no facility in the city larger than HICC for events, officials are considering plan to convert it for a multipurpose use.
