Revanth Govt Betrayed Handloom Workers: KTR

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday accused the Congress government of neglecting handloom weavers, and demanded that all the welfare schemes implemented for weavers when the BRS was in power be restored.

In an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on National Handloom Day, Rama Rao said that the Congress government did not keep a “single promise made to weavers during the elections.”

These promises, according to him, included annual financial assistance of `18,000 under Chenetha Bharosa, `6,000 assistance for allied workers, waiver of individual loans up to `1 lakh, waiver of cash credit loans for handloom cooperative societies, and the promise to bear the burden of the 5 per ccent GST imposed by the Centre on handloom cloth.

He alleged that both the BJP-led Central government and the Congress government in the state, were together pushing the handloom sector into crisis. In the state, Rama Rao alleged, government orders for clothes, as in the case of school uniforms, were being handed over to private organisations and individuals for commissions.
