Revanth Asks BC Students To Focus On Higher Education
Every BC student, especially from the Goud community, should aspire to reach high positions in civil service by emulating Papanna Goud’s determination and courage: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday called upon students from Backward Classes (BC) communities, particularly the Gouds, to focus on education and draw inspiration from the revolutionary spirit of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud to achieve their goals.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the 375th birth anniversary celebrations of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud, who had fought the Mughals and held the Golconda fort, at Ravindra Bharati on Monday. Earlier in the day, he laid the foundation stone for the installation of Papanna Goud's statue at Tank Bund.
Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy said that every BC student, especially from the Goud community, should aspire to reach high positions in civil service by emulating Papanna Goud’s determination and courage.
“Papanna Goud fought against the Mughals and occupied the Golconda fort. His commitment must inspire today’s youth to excel through education,” he said.
Revanth Reddy recalled that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had promised reservations for the BC communities across the country in proportion to their population. He highlighted that Telangana was the first state to ensure 42 per cent reservations for BCs.
“We passed the Bill on BC reservations in the Assembly and sent it to the Governor, who forwarded it to the President. Unfortunately, it is pending due to political compulsions,” he noted.
The Chief Minister praised Papanna Goud as a visionary leader who established a Bahujan empire with immense dedication. He alleged that previous governments conspired to diminish the historical importance of Khilashapur fort, Papanna Goud’s native place, by diverting it for mining purposes.
“When I was TPCC chief, I visited Khilashapur and promised to preserve the fort and his legacy,” he reiterated.
Highlighting the Congress government’s initiatives, Revanth Reddy said a scientific caste census had been carried out swiftly and revealed that Bahujans constituted 56.33 per cent of Telangana’s population. “We have enacted two separate laws providing 42 per cent reservations for BCs in education, jobs, employment, and politics,” he said.
He further stated that Congress MPs had staged protests in New Delhi demanding implementation of these reservations, and alleged that the BJP and BRS had failed to extend support. “The BJP and BRS have betrayed the BCs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Kishan Reddy deliberately delayed the BC reservation process,” he charged.
Revanth Reddy also criticised electoral malpractices, calling “vote chori” the biggest crime in Indian democracy and claiming that nearly one crore bogus voters were added ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. He added that a state Congress delegation would join the yatra of Rahul Gandhi in Bihar to protest against the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Revanth Reddy urged the BC community to defeat both the BJP and the BRS in order to secure 42 per cent reservations for their communities in the future.
