Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a case against city‑based real estate firm SVM Aditya Homes following allegations of cheating investors by collecting crores of rupees for a proposed villa project at Ameenpur in Sangareddy district. The firm allegedly collected ₹15.10 crore from multiple customers under the promise of constructing villas in a gated residential venture.

The case was registered on a complaint by a 48‑year‑old software engineer employed with Bank of America, who alleged that SVM Aditya Homes, represented by its managing partner N. Sreenivasa Babu, J. Madhusudhana Reddy and others, induced him and several other customers to invest in a villa project named Tech Homes at Kistareddypeta village in Ameenpur mandal. The project was proposed over nine acres of land and promised around 200 villas with modern amenities at affordable prices.

The complainant said that after receiving promotional calls in 2023, he visited the company office at Icon Towers in Kondapur and agreed to purchase Villa No. 92 for ₹1.79 crore, excluding amenities charges. Trusting the assurances of the developers, he transferred ₹80 lakh through bank transactions between November 2023 and April 2024. The firm allegedly promised possession within 18 months from HMDA approval, with a six‑month grace period, and executed a memorandum of understanding.

Buyers later discovered that no construction activity had begun at the site and that the land was not registered in the company’s name. The complainant alleged that the accused had no legal authority to sell the villas and induced customers to part with large sums of money through false promises. Police said around 19 investors had collectively paid approximately ₹15.10 crore into the project.

Based on the complaint, Cyberabad EOW registered a case under BNS Sections 318(4), 316(2) read with 3(5), and Section 5 of the Telangana State Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act, 1999.

Cybercrime cops caution on second‑hand mobiles

Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have advised citizens to verify the IMEI number of second‑hand mobile phones through the Know Your Mobile (KYM) service before purchase or use, warning that blacklisted or duplicate numbers could indicate stolen or illegal devices.

Officials said many people unknowingly buy used phones without checking authenticity, which may later create legal and security concerns. The KYM service, provided by the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), helps users identify whether a device is genuine or reported stolen. “Before buying or using a second‑hand mobile phone, citizens should verify its IMEI number using the KYM service. A blacklisted, duplicate or already‑in‑use IMEI may indicate that the phone is stolen, tampered with or operating illegally,” a cybercrime official said.

Explaining the process, police said users can dial *#06# to know the IMEI number, then send an SMS in the format ‘KYM <IMEI>’ to 14422. An instant reply will provide details including brand, model and IMEI status.

If the reply shows the IMEI as “blacklisted”, “duplicate” or “already in use”, buyers should avoid the device and report suspicious activity. Cybercrime officials also urged citizens to stay alert against fraud, avoid clicking on unknown links, and never share OTPs, passwords or PINs. They advised using only official websites and apps for verification or digital transactions.

Police said public awareness is crucial to prevent circulation of stolen phones and reduce cyber‑enabled fraud. Victims of cyber fraud or suspicious online activity can contact the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 for assistance.

Darul Shifa restoration to use lime mortar

Following complaints that the 400‑year‑old Darul Shifa structure was being damaged due to use of cement in ongoing restoration works, the Telangana Heritage Department has directed the GHMC contractor to use lime mortar.

Activists alleged that the works were being carried out without adhering to archaeological norms. Acting on the complaint, the department’s engineering wing inspected the site and issued guidance.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, N. Narsingh, deputy director (Engineering), said that although Darul Shifa is not a protected monument under the department, activists had raised concerns. “Already half of the works have been executed using cement,” he said, adding that the contractor was instructed to use lime mortar wherever stucco work is involved to maintain the originality of the structure.

Built in the 1590s, Darul Shifa was the first hospital and medical school established after Hyderabad was founded.
