Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda Summoned by ED in Money Laundering Case
Lakshmi Manchu also called for questioning; actors allegedly endorsed illegal betting platforms under probe for laundering crores
Hyderabad, July 21: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned leading Telugu film personalities including Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda and Manchu Lakshmi in connection with its ongoing investigation into the alleged promotion of illegal online betting platforms.
As per sources, the celebrities are scheduled to appear before the ED on the following dates: Daggubati on July 23, Prakash Raj on July 30, Deverakonda on August 6, and Manchu Lakshmi on August 13. The summons are part of a broader probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), triggered by multiple FIRs filed across Panjagutta, Miyapur, Visakhapatnam, Suryapet, and Cyberabad police stations.
“This is the same case that has been going on for some time. Our legal team will handle the matter in the appropriate forum,” said Suresh Babu, father of Rana Daggubati, opting not to comment further on the issue.
So far, the ED has reportedly booked 29 individuals, including film stars, social media influencers, and YouTubers for their alleged involvement in promoting gambling-related platforms. Those under the scanner include Nidhi Agarwal, Praneetha, Sreemukhi, and Shyamala, along with popular digital creators like Harsha Sai, Bayya Sunny Yadav, and the ‘Local Boy Nani’ YouTube channel.
With the ED continuing its phased investigation, more summons are expected in the coming days in what is shaping up to be one of the most significant crackdowns on celebrity-linked gambling promotions.
Amid the growing controversy, noted producer Lagadapati Sridhar has issued an appeal to the Telugu film fraternity to steer clear of betting endorsements. “Betting is a crime and a dangerous vice,” he emphasised. “Celebrities should completely avoid it. Their faces carry immense influence, especially among youth and rural audiences, who might otherwise not engage with such platforms.”
While refraining from naming anyone, Sridhar warned that stars with large fan bases could unintentionally lure innocent followers — including children — into the harmful world of betting. “It’s not just about money,” he added. “There are plenty of other things to endorse—cars, bikes, soft drinks, jewellery. Why pick something that can ruin lives?”
Sridhar praised Telugu stars like Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan for supporting the government’s anti-drug initiatives, calling it the right example of socially responsible stardom.“This is the kind of influence celebrities should wield — guiding fans towards better habits and a healthier lifestyle. The younger generation has so much potential. Stars must lead by example,” he said.
