Defence Minister lauds scientists for advancing India’s missile capabilities during Hyderabad visit

Hyderabad: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday felicitated the team of that built the long-range hypersonic anti-ship missile, which passed its flight trials in November last.

The successful testing of the long-range hypersonic anti-ship missile positioned India among the select group of nations with hypersonic missile capabilities.

The minister was in Hyderabad to participate in National Science Day celebrations and visited DRDO’s Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, which is the nerve centre for design and development of indigenous missile systems.

Dr Samir V. Kamat, secretary, defence R&D, and Chairman of DRDO, and senior scientists briefed Rajnath Singh about the missile technologies and related programmes being carried out by Research Centre Imarat (RCI).

Interacting with the scientists, the defence minister commended them for their unparalleled contribution to India’s defence capabilities and said that with concerted efforts, India will find itself among the top-three economies by 2027.

Paying tributes to Dr Abdul Kalam, Rajnath Singh said the former President’s contributions to science and technology, and missile development in particular, could never be forgotten.

In his address, DRDO chairman Dr Samir Kamat reiterated the organisation’s commitment towards developing critical technologies and ensuring that India becomes ‘Aatmanirbhar’ as well as a technology leader.
