With the twin objectives of raising public awareness about cybercrime and strengthening the bond between the police and the community, the Cyberabad police on Sunday organised ‘Cyber Dandiya’, a programme integrating the cultural celebrations of Bathukamma and Dasara with messages centered on "cyber safety." The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) organised the event in coordination with the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner Srujana. Government officials, police personnel, representatives from IT companies, youth, women, family members, and residents from various areas within the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits participated. Approximately 1,500 people attended the event.

Cyberabad police commissioner Ramesh stated that Cyber Dandiya was organised with the objective of raising awareness about cyber security among the public, alongside cultural celebrations. He noted that through initiatives like Cyber Dandiya, the police can engage directly with the community to educate them about emerging cyber threats and the precautions necessary to stay protected.

Artificial intelligence (AI), digital tools, videos, and practical demonstrations were utilized to raise awareness about cybercrimes. Various types of cybercrimes, the methods (modus operandi) employed by perpetrators, and the precautions necessary for prevention were explained to the public in a manner that was simple, engaging, and easy to understand.

Commissioner Ramesh stated that cybercriminals were constantly adopting new methods to deceive the public. He advised people to remain vigilant against various scams, including 'digital arrest' schemes, investment and trading frauds, phishing, smishing, OTP-related scams, malicious links, and fraudulent part-time job offers. The CP further cautioned the public never to share OTPs, passwords, PINs, or banking details with anyone, and to avoid clicking on suspicious links.

They advised that one must always verify online investment offers that promise high returns before trusting them. In the event of falling victim to a cyber fraud, they suggested that victims should act immediately by calling the cybercrime helpline at 1930 and filing a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
