Quacks Held For Treating Pregnant Women With Steroids

Hyderabad:A man posing as a doctor and administering betamethasone steroid injections to pregnant women without medical supervision was arrested during a surprise inspection by the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) in Warangal.
The raid, conducted in the Karimabad area, also led to the arrest of another fake practitioner who had been illegally treating patients for nearly two decades.
Acting on the instructions of TGMC chairman Dr K Mahesh Kumar and registrar Dr D Lalayya Kumar, officials raided unregistered medical centres as part of a statewide crackdown on quackery.
The accused, Gaddam Harish, was found running a fake first-aid centre for the past four months and administering steroid injections to pregnant women without consulting a qualified physician — an act that could cause serious complications for both mother and child.
Another quack, Gaddam Srinivas, was discovered using dangerous drugs such as gentamicin and diclofenac without prescriptions. Officials noted that he himself suffers from a hearing impairment, raising questions about his ability to assess or treat patients.
TGMC confirmed that FIRs would be registered under the Telangana Medical Practitioners Regulation (TMPR) Act and NMC laws, which carry penalties of up to three years in jail and fine up to `10 lakh.
Realtor duped of Rs 8 lakh in fake promotional scheme
Hyderabad:A city-based realtor was allegedly cheated of more than `8 lakh by two individuals, who were posing as executives of a well-known real estate firm, Lodha Groups. The victim was lured by the scammers to invest in a fraudulent promotional scheme.
The victim, who is a 29-year-old businessman belonging to LB Nagar, had received messages from two persons identifying themselves as Venkateshwar and Vinay. The fraudsters claimed to be executives of Lodha Groups and promised to help him to expand his business as well as earning daily profits through online promotions.
Initially, he was reluctant to show his inclination, but eventually the victim agreed after the duo sent screenshots showing supposedly clients making profits through their platform.
The accused were in touch with him through WhatsApp calls and later sent an email using the company’s name along with login credentials, to make the setup appear genuine. Convinced by their presentation, the businessman started transferring money for the so-called promotions.
Over time, he invested a total of `8,72,258 through 17 transactions, but received only `51,356 in return. Upon realising that the offers were fraudulent and the accused were unreachable, he approached Rachakonda cybercrime police and filed a complaint.
The accused created a fake online portal and misused the company’s name, to gain victim’s trust and made him invest in the fraudulent scheme. Efforts are underway to trace the individuals based on phone numbers and transaction details.
On the other, officials appealed to public to verify those promotional or investment schemes before transferring money online, particularly when approached by unknown persons using reputed company's names or email IDs.
Retd employee loses Rs 20 L to online fraud
Hyderabad:A retired employee from Kondapur lost `20.72 lakh to cybercriminals who duped him through a fake online trading platform, police said. According to the complaint, the 65-year-old victim was lured by online advertisements and phone calls claiming that the company was authorised by the Central government to provide professional trading assistance.
Believing the claims, he opened a trading account on October 9 and initially saw fabricated profits on the website, which prompted him to invest further. He transferred money in several instalments from his bank accounts to those shared by the company representatives through various UPI IDs.
Later, the fraudsters claimed he had suffered “trading losses” and demanded an additional `10 lakh to recover his funds. When he said he had exhausted his savings, they persuaded him to borrow money and continue trading through a fake mobile application. In total, he transferred `20,72,320.
When he could neither withdraw nor see genuine profits, he realised the platform was fraudulent and lodged a complaint with the police on November 11. Police said a case has been registered and efforts are on to identify the operators and trace the money trail. They cautioned the public against investing through unverified online trading portals and urged citizens to report suspicious investment offers immediately.
MANAGE conducts 2-wk agri-tech training
Hyderabad:The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE),Hyderabad is conducting a two-week Indian Technical and Economic cooperation (ITEC) training on application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agriculture.
The programme is supported by the ministry of external affairs and a total of 27 participants from 16 countries including Mauritius, Tanzania, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and others attending the training session.
While addressing farmers, Director General of MANAGE Dr Sagar Hanuman Singh stressed about the integration of scientific knowledge in agriculture, AI application in precision agriculture, fisheries and early warning systems that provide timely alerts and precautionary measures to prevent the potential harms.
He also mentioned about the Godaam Sense innovative app developed by Godaam innovations which uses IoT technology to detect spoilage of onions. ITEC programme coordinator Srikanth, highlighted about the ‘Saagu Baagu’ project by the Telangana Government at to transforming agriculture through technology, particularly in soil health management.
The training aimed to enhance the understanding of digital technology and improving sustainability in agriculture. It focuses on key areas such as ICT in rice production, Geo-AI in rural development and remote sensing application in agriculture.
The programme will conclude on November 25 and to enrich the learning experience the participants will visit institutions such as T-Hub, T-works, PJTSAU Drone Academy, NIRDPR, ICAR-CRIDA and other institutions. The programme ends with a historical tour in city.
Amar Jyoti Centre ready for Inauguration
Hyderabad:Dr G. Chinna Reddy, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board, visited the Amar Jyoti Centre in Hyderabad on Wednesday and announced that he would urge Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to inaugurate the memorial soon. The center, built in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the Telangana movement, is now ready to be opened to the public.
During his visit, Dr Chinna Reddy emphasised the significance of dedicating the Amar Jyoti Center to the people without delay. He said the memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the martyrs of Telangana and should begin serving its intended purpose.
He inspected the facilities within the complex, which include an auditorium, canteen, and escalators. Dr Reddy noted that the site is well-prepared to welcome visitors once inaugurated. Architect M.V. Ramana Reddy explained the design and key features of the memorial, while Professor Ganta Jalandhar Reddy, Founder President of the Telangana Language and Culture Council, accompanied Dr Chinna Reddy during the visit.
Burglars decamp with gold from techie’s house
Hyderabad:Unidentified burglars broke into a house and made away with gold ornaments weighing about 312 grams, near Bandlaguda in Rajendranagar at midnight on Monday.
According to police, the complainant, an IT employee, said that on November 10, around 11.30 pm, his family went to bed after locking all doors. When he woke up at 5.30 am on Tuesday, he found the cupboards open and ornaments missing.
The stolen jewellery includes 6 gold necklaces weighing 21.5 tolas, 6 bangles (5 tolas), 2 pairs of earrings (1 tola), a diamond necklace chain (8 grams), a small gold chain (4 grams) and a finger ring (5 grams).
Police said burglars are suspected to have entered the house through the kitchen door. A case has been registered with the Rajendranagar police and further investigation into the incident is underway.
Weeklong fete for senior citizens starts in Hyderabad
Hyderabad:As part of a week-long celebration from November 12 to 19, the Hyderabad district administration has announced a series of programmes dedicated to senior citizens, focusing on their health, welfare, and rights.
District collector Harichandana Dasari unveiled the Senior Citizens Week wall poster at the Collectorate on Wednesday and instructed officials to ensure the successful conduct of the planned cultural and sports events for the elderly across the district.
The week’s schedule includes awareness sessions on laws related to senior citizens, health, and ageing (November 13), recreational and sports activities at old-age homes (November 14), a walkathon on senior citizens’ rights (November 15), district-level awareness programmes on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 (November 17), and city-level health camps and interactions with public representatives (November 18).
The celebrations will conclude on November 19 with a grand observance of the International Day of Older Persons at Ravindra Bharathi.
