President Murmu Calls for Balance Between Growth and Spirituality
She observed that the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — viewing the world as one family — was more relevant than ever in achieving global peace.
Hyderabad: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Saturday underlined the need to blend material progress with spiritual values to address growing global challenges, while speaking at the conference titled ‘Timeless Wisdom of Bharat: Pathways of Peace and Progress’ at Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar, organised to mark its 21st anniversary.
She noted that the world was undergoing rapid transformation but was simultaneously grappling with serious issues such as mental health concerns, social conflicts, ecological imbalance, and erosion of human values. Material development alone, she said, cannot ensure happiness or peace, as inner stability, emotional intelligence, and a value-based approach were equally essential.
Highlighting India’s spiritual heritage, President Murmu said the country’s ancient sage tradition had consistently emphasised truth, non-violence, and peaceful coexistence. “India’s spiritual wisdom offers meaningful solutions to the world’s mental, moral, and environmental problems,” she said, adding that the confluence of modernity and spirituality remains India’s greatest strength.
She observed that the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — viewing the world as one family — was more relevant than ever in achieving global peace.
The President also stressed that spirituality strengthens social unity and national progress. Individuals rooted in moral values and self-discipline, she said, promote tolerance, cooperation, and responsible citizenship, thereby contributing actively to nation-building.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, addressing the gathering, described Bharat as an eternal civilisation shaped by spiritual inquiry, ethical reflection, and higher consciousness.
Quoting ancient Indian philosophies and leaders including the Bhagavad Gita and Mahatma Gandhi, he said progress without values leads only to superficial peace. Despite scientific and technological advances, humanity continues to face stress, conflict, and ecological degradation, he added.
The Governor lauded the Brahma Kumaris for translating ancient wisdom into practical action through meditation, leadership training, youth and women empowerment initiatives, education, and environmental stewardship. He described Shanti Sarovar as a centre for reflection, service, and learning that has positively influenced citizens across professions over the past 21 years.
Minister Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya was among those present at the conference, which brought together spiritual leaders, administrators, professionals, and citizens to reflect on pathways toward peace and sustainable progress rooted in India’s timeless wisdom.
