Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday announced that he will visit Osmania University on December 10 to inspect academic blocks, hostels and other student facilities as part of a major push to modernise the century-old institution.

He said that the university’s future transformation must be shaped jointly by students and faculty, and directed officials to actively seek their opinions before finalising any development plans.

Revanth Reddy was earlier supposed to visit the OU campus on December 7 and hold a meeting at the Arts College Grounds as part of the Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu, but the visit has now been rescheduled to December 10.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting on development plans for Osmania University at his residence. Officials presented an overview of upcoming projects for the development of the OU campus through a PowerPoint presentation.

The Chief Minister instructed them to place all proposed development models before students and teaching staff for feedback. To facilitate this, he ordered the creation of drop boxes across the campus and the launch of a dedicated website to collect suggestions.

A final blueprint for the projects should be readied by the end of December, with students’ views given top priority, he said.

Revanth Reddy suggested several modifications to designs related to new hostels, academic blocks, internal roads and the main auditorium. He also asked officials to explore the use of urban forestry funds for improving forested areas within the university limits, while simultaneously creating additional water sources and conserving existing ones.

The Chief Minister said that while planning hostel and academic infrastructure, an additional 10 per cent accommodation capacity must be incorporated to meet future student needs and prevent congestion. He reiterated the government’s readiness to provide adequate funds for the comprehensive development of the campus.

He further stated that Osmania University’s historically significant structures must be preserved, while prioritising new construction over the renovation of old buildings that do not carry heritage value. He asked officials to focus on every element of campus infrastructure, including creating cycle tracks, pedestrian-friendly paths and installing symbolic features that highlight the university’s legacy of student struggles.

Those present at the review meeting included Chief Minister’s adviser Vem Narender Reddy, government adviser K. Kesava Rao, CM’s special secretary B. Ajith Reddy, principal secretary (education) Yogita Rana, commissioner of technical education Sridevasena, Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Arts College principal Prof. C. Kaseem and other senior officials.
