Warangal: A 33-year-old doctor, who was nine months pregnant, was killed in a road accident after a speeding lorry rammed into the scooter she was riding with her husband on Hunter Road in Hanamkonda district on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Dr Sali Mamatha Rani, an assistant professor at Father Colombo Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, police said.
The accident occurred while the couple was returning home from duty. Her husband, Dr Salu Raghavendra, a final-year orthopaedics student at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), was riding the scooter. According to police, the lorry hit the two-wheeler from behind at high speed.
Mamatha Rani sustained critical injuries in the impact and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her advanced stage of pregnancy has added to the shock and grief surrounding the incident.
The lorry driver, identified as Nizam Ansari, reportedly fled the scene after the accident. Police have registered a case and launched a search to trace and arrest the absconding driver.
