Population Count To Begin In State In Jan. 2027
There is perception that Population Enumeration (PE) is a process to collect caste details: official
HYDERABAD: The second phase of Census 2027, involving population enumeration, will begin in January 2027, with residents having the option of submitting their details online through a self-enumeration facility before enumerators undertake house-to-house visits.
The Union government has notified 40 questions for population enumeration, covering caste, religion, education, occupation, economic activity, migration and other socio-economic details of household members.
While the first phase covers housing conditions and household details, including the head of the family and type of house, the second phase will collect information on individual family members.
The questions include the highest educational qualification attained, occupation, nature of industry, trade or service, number of children, total number of bank accounts, place of Covid-19 vaccination, previous place of residence and reasons for migration, wherever applicable.
The questionnaire also seeks Aadhaar number, voter ID number and Indian passport number, where available or applicable, besides information on the availability of a driving licence.
“There is perception that Population Enumeration (PE) is a process to collect caste details, but this task is about understating socio-economic status and caste is only one among the entire component," said an official.
A training programme for charge clerks and technical assistants from Circles 1 to 30 and the Cantonment Board under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was held on Wednesday.
Telangana director of census operations Bharathi Hollikeri, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan and other officials briefed the staff assigned to population enumeration on the procedures and operational requirements for Census 2027.
The training covered the formation of additional enumeration blocks, preparation of abridged house lists and use of the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, including its various modules.
Participants were trained in the use of the population enumeration mobile application by enumerators and supervisors for collecting and recording responses to the 40 questions.
Officials also explained the self-enumeration facility, under which residents can register and submit their information through a dedicated online portal. The programme covered training for field-level census staff, publicity and awareness activities and other operational arrangements.
Officials were instructed to ensure comprehensive and accurate enumeration, without omissions or duplication, covering every family, household, census house and building under the prescribed procedures.
