Ponnam Urges Students To Join Road Safety Clubs In Schools
The Road Safety Month will be observed from January 1 to 31, during which a series of awareness programmes will be organised by the transport department.
Nalgonda: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday called upon students to join school-based Road Safety Clubs and take a pledge to strictly follow traffic rules.
Speaking after releasing publicity posters and pamphlets for National Road Safety Month celebrations at Yadagirigutta in Yadadri-Bhongir district, the minister said road accidents in the state were claiming a large number of lives and needed to be reduced on a priority basis. He said creating awareness on road safety measures among the public would play a key role in preventing accidents.
The Road Safety Month will be observed from January 1 to 31, during which a series of awareness programmes will be organised by the transport department. The minister said elected representatives and officials should actively participate in the month-long campaign to educate people on road safety measures. He also appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and adopt safe driving practices to avoid accidents.
Ponnam Prabhakar instructed officials to create awareness on road safety norms among people at the time of purchasing new vehicles and while applying for driving licences.
He further said Road Safety Clubs would be set up in all schools to educate students on traffic rules and safe road behaviour. In coordination with the education department, students would be encouraged to take a pledge along with their parents to follow traffic rules and actively participate in school-based Road Safety Clubs.
The minister urged elected representatives and officials to ensure the success of the Road Safety Month awareness programmes.
Earlier, the minister visited the Sri Lakshminarsimha Swamy Temple at Yadagirigutta and participated in special puja. Temple priests welcomed him in accordance with traditional customs.
Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah and district collector M. Hanumantha Rao accompanied the minister.
