Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Sunday urged BJP MPs from Telangana to mount pressure on the NDA government at the Centre, to ensure the state could get maximum support to tackle the situation arising out of the El Nino.

Launching the construction works of a four-lane road from Maddulapalli to Gollagudem with central lighting system, and the development of junctions at an estimated cost of `1 crore, the minister stated that the support of the Centre was necessary to tackle the impact of the ‘super El Niño’, and hoped that the Centre would extend full cooperation to the state without any discrimination.

Stating that the impact of the ‘super El Niño’ was not limited to Telangana alone, and reminded that many countries across the globe are reeling under similar conditions. People, particularly farmers, have been advised to take precautionary measures, keeping in mind the possible water shortage in coming days. In case of water scarcity in the near future, farmers have been urged not to sow a second crop and to use the available water resources judiciously, the minister pointed out.

The state government was implementing a proactive plan to minimise the impact of the El Nino phenomenon. All party meeting would be convened soon to discuss how to manage potential situations arising out of the El Nino, he added.

Overcoming the financial hurdles created by the previous BRS government as well as pushing the state into debt, Ponguleti said the Congress government has been fulfilling poll promises made to the people one-by-one. The state government was committed to stand in support of the poor and the development projects would be implemented with focus on the needs of the public, he added.
