Ponguleti: Complete Paleru UT Canal Works by July 10
Irrigation for 4 lakh acres in Khammam depends on timely tunnel completion
Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has instructed officials to urgently complete the construction works of the under-tunnel on the left main canal of Nagarjunasagar at Paleru by July 10, which supplies irrigation water to around four lakh acres in Khammam district.
He said that under no circumstances should the works go beyond July 10 and water must be released for the farmers in time for the upcoming kharif season. On Friday, the Minister made a surprise inspection of the ongoing canal works at Jujjularaopeta in Kusumanchi mandal in Khammam district.
The minister stated that due to the heavy rains last year, the under-tunnel near Paleru reservoir at Jujjularaopeta within the Paleru constituency, was damaged in September last year. To prevent inconvenience to farmers, temporary arrangements were made at that time to supply irrigation water.
Permanent repair works of the under-tunnel canal began at a cost of ₹14.20 crore. He mentioned that this canal is a lifeline for the agricultural sector in Khammam district and once completed, it will ensure irrigation water for nearly four lakh acres in the district, including 1.33 lakh acres in the Paleru constituency alone.
Taking the monsoon into consideration, the minister instructed officials to treat the work with the utmost priority and, if necessary, operate in two shifts per day to complete the construction within the deadline.
