Political Atmosphere Heats Up in Nalgonda Over MLA Elections

Nalgonda: Political atmosphere is heating up in erstwhile Nalgonda district, with Congress high command choosing Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy as the party’s candidate for elections to Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates MLC seat.

Sarvotham Reddy is son of late Congress leader R. Damodar Reddy, who represented Thungathurthy assembly constituency four times and Suryapet assembly constituency once.

Nalgonda District Congress Committee (DCC) president Punna Kailash Netha and TPCC general secretary Chenagani Dayakar from Nalgonda district had lobbied for the graduates’ MLC seat. They appeared surprised after the late-night announcement of Sarvotham Reddy as the party candidate, when the latter’s name did not even figure in MLC seat aspirants’ list.

It is said Sarvotham Reddy has no strong relations with the party cadre and youth, except in Suryapet and Thungathurthy assembly constituencies.

Congress leaders opine that Sarvotham Reddy may use the name of his father’s brother Ramreddy Venkat Reddy, five times MLA from Sujatha Nagar and Palair in Khammam district, to get the votes of graduates in the erstwhile Khammam district.

There is a buzz in the political circles that decks have been cleared for Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, a staunch follower of Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, for contesting either from Suryapet or Thungathurthy assembly seat, with Sarvotham Reddy being named as the Congress candidate for MLC elections. In fact, Sarvotham Reddy has reportedly been preparing ground to contest from either Suryapet or Thungathurthy assembly constituency.

The name of Anugula Rakesh Reddy is doing rounds as the BRS candidate for elections to Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates MLC elections. But the opposition party is yet to officially announce its candidate. Rakesh had contested the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduates MLC seat earlier, but had been defeated by Chinthapandu Naveen (Teenmar Mallanna).
