Police To Send Report On Mahabubnagar Medico’s Involvement In Fatal Accident
Police will report a medical student’s alleged involvement in a fatal Mahabubnagar road accident to the college, which will seek further action from KNRUHS.
Police will send a report to Government Medical College, Mahabubnagar, on a road accident involving a third-year medical student in which a woman was killed. The college will forward the report to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) for advice on further action.
Mahbubnagar police superintendent D. Janaki told Deccan Chronicle that a case had been registered under the negligence-related death provision and that further sections would be added, if applicable, based on the investigation.
“Arrests are yet to be made. The possibility of racing must be ruled out, as the SUV was within the speed limit and had no connection with the vehicle coming from behind. A medical student from Government Medical College, Mahbubnagar, was in the SUV. We will send the report to the college,” she said.
Dr M. Ramesh, Director and college principal, said the institution had not encountered a similar case involving a medical student before.
“We have established rules to deal with ragging and drug-related cases, but not accident cases. Once we receive the report from the police, we will forward it to KNRUHS. The university is authorised to decide on the action to be taken, and we will follow its advice,” he said.
The accident occurred near a school in Amistapur, within the Bhoothpur municipality limits in Mahbubnagar district, when two SUVs allegedly racing against each other collided with a motorcycle carrying a family returning home after attending a relative’s wedding.
Shahana Begum, 40, died at the scene. Her husband, Shaker, sustained serious injuries, including fractures to his arms and legs, and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Their young daughter, Ayara, who was in her mother’s lap at the time of the accident, suffered minor injuries. According to reports, one of the SUVs fled the scene after the collision, while local residents caught the other vehicle.
