Police to Curb Traffic for New Year Eve
All flyovers in Hyderabad, except Begumpet and Tolichowki, will be closed on a need basis during the night.
Hyderabad: In view of the New Year celebrations on the night of December 31, the Hyderabad traffic police have announced a series of traffic arrangements and restrictions across the Hyderabad city police commissionerate to ensure public order and road safety.
Traffic personnel will be deployed at 217 major and busy junctions across the city, particularly in market areas, near malls, and at crowd-prone locations such as Tank Bund, NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace Road), and commercial, shopping, restaurant and pub zones in Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Saifabad and surrounding areas.
Need-based traffic restrictions will be imposed from 11 pm onwards on Wednesday, December 31, on Tank Bund and surrounding roads, and will remain in force until the celebrations conclude. From 11 pm to 2 am on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, traffic will not be permitted on NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace road) and Tank Bund for all private and public transport vehicles.
Several diversions will be enforced around Hussainsagar lake, including at VV Statue, Secretariat Junction, Old Ambedkar Statue, Khairatabad Ganesh, Nallagutta X Roads, Budha Bhavan, DBR Mills, Kavadiguda X Roads and Sailing Club, with traffic redirected towards Shadan College, Iqbal Minar, Liberty, Ranigunj, Karbala, Kawadiguda X Roads and other designated routes.
All flyovers in the city, except Begumpet and Tolichowki, will be closed on a need basis during the night. The PVNR Expressway flyover will remain open only for passengers travelling to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with valid air tickets.
Heavy vehicles, including private travel buses, lorries, HGVs and HPVs, will not be allowed to enter the city limits between 10 pm on December 31 and 2 am on January 1. Such vehicles are advised to use the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Visitors proceeding to Tank Bund on foot are advised to park their vehicles at Secretariat Visitors’ Parking, HMDA Parking Ground near Prasad’s Multiplex, GHMC Head Office Lane, Race Course Road near NTR Ghat, Adarsh Nagar lane (two-wheelers only) and NTR Stadium.
Managements of three-star and above hotels, clubs, bars, pubs and event organisers have been directed to make special parking and security arrangements, regulate traffic, restrict liquor service to permitted hours and provide safe transportation to intoxicated persons.
The traffic police will conduct extensive checks against drunk driving, overspeeding, rash and dangerous driving, wrong-side driving, helmet-less riding and triple riding. Drunk driving attracts punishment under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, including a fine of Rs.10,000 and/or six months’ imprisonment. Repeat offenders face suspension of driving licences, while vehicle owners allowing minors to drive will be prosecuted.
