Police Form 10 Teams To Curb Drug Abuse On New Year

HYDERABAD: The city police have set up 10 special cluster teams to prevent drug menace during the New Year celebrations.
“We have formed 10 clusters teams of Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in coordination with the law & order police, city armed reserve personnel from CAR headquarters, and narcotic dog squad to conduct surprise special checks at pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and for drunken driving checks across the city in view of the forthcoming New Year celebrations, DCP- task force and H-NEW Vaibhav Gaikwad said.
The objective is to prevent drug abuse and maintain public order in the twin city as part of the New `Year Special Drive` that has already begun by the 10 cluster teams, six decoy teams have also been deployed, and randomly conducted surprise checks at pubs, bars, and restaurants in the Hyderabad City, Vaibhav Gaikwad said.
The teams carried out discreet and surprise checks without causing any inconvenience to the management or the general public. Suspicious persons were screened in and around the above premises using rapid drug testing kits, and all results were found to be negative.
The operation was conducted with the active participation of Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), law & order police, CAR headquarters police, and the sniffer dog team, he said.
The cluster teams were led by inspector of H-NEW G.S. Daniel, inspector of H-NEW Sri S. Balaswamy under the direct supervision of DCP Task Force / H-NEW Vaibhav Gaikwad.
The Hyderabad City Police reiterates its commitment to ensuring drug-free, safe, and peaceful New Year celebrations. Such special drives will continue across the city during the New Year period to deter offenders and safeguard public interest, he added.
