Hyderabad:The commissioner’s task force and the Nampally police special team on Thursday registered cases against a 36-year-old diagnostic centre manager Salim, and three women for allegedly trafficking a newborn by arranging its sale for `2 lakh through a clinic in Red Hills.

Nampally inspector Ch. Saidulu said Salim was running Quality Clinic from a room in the cellar of Aruna Apartments, opposite MNJ Cancer Hospital in Red Hills. Police alleged that he had been facilitating the purchase and sale of newborns with the help of women associates under the guise of running the diagnostic centre.

The case surfaced after police received information about the sale of a newborn boy. The child was subsequently traced and rescued.

Police said Salim and two women allegedly negotiated a deal for `2 lakh to hand over the baby to another woman. The transfer was purportedly documented through a notarised agreement instead of following the legal adoption process.

“On receiving the information, our teams rescued the baby and shifted it to Shishu Vihar,” a police officer said.

Police said action would be taken against Salim, the women who allegedly assisted him, the biological mother who sold the baby and the woman who took the child. The circumstances leading to the sale and the role of each accused are being examined.
