KARIMNAGAR: The police arrested a man for pawning rented cars, defrauding and intimidating their owners, and seized four cars and a mobile phone from him in Godavarikhani, Peddapalli district on Friday.

Assistant commissioner of police M. Ramesh told the media that the accused, 29-year-old Marupelli Pranay Bhaskar of L.B. Nagar, Godavarikhani, worked as a driver. Addicted to bad habits and a lavish lifestyle, he rented vehicles by promising monthly payments, then pawned them for ₹2-3 lakh each, amassing around ₹10 lakh in total. When owners pressed for their cars’ return, he turned off his phone and hid in Hyderabad.

After Boda Tirupati filed a complaint at the Godavarikhani One Town Police Station, alleging Bhaskar had not returned his car, investigators registered a case. Acting on a tip-off, they located and arrested Bhaskar in Godavarikhani.

ACP Ramesh commended inspector Indrasena Reddy and constables Ramesh, Sadanandam, and Madhukar for their efforts in apprehending the accused and recovering the vehicles.
