PJTSAU urged to hike stipend amount for research scholars

Hyderabad:The All India Agriculture Students Association (AIASA) submitted a representation to the Assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar seeking revision of stipend for Ph.D. and M.Sc. scholars from Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTSAU) and regular disbursement of the same. They lamented that the rates have not been increased ever since the creation of Telangana state.

They gave the representation when the speaker visited the varsity on Wednesday.

The representation said that ANGRAU in Andhra Pradesh, post-bifurcation had revised expenses towards research and college fee.

“We would like to bring to your notice that PJTAU is hiking the semester registration fee by about 10 per cent every year. Our expenses towards stationary, mess and hostel fees are also increasing. It is pathetic that stipend of Ph.D. scholars is being terminated on the completion of 25 months.”

They sought an increase in stipend to `20,000 per month for Ph.D scholars for 36 months and `10,000 to M.Sc students for 24 months. The students also asked for a rethink on the proposal enhance the retirement age of state government employees from 61 to 65 years.
