Pit Collapses Due to Rain, Sewage Flow

Officials identified that continuous rainfall had caused rainwater to mix with sewage and flow in large volumes, leading to the damage

Hyderabad: A trench collapsed during a trial pit excavation on a 1,200-mm diameter RCC sewerage trunk overflow in the its Autonagar section, part of the operations and maintenance Division 21, here on Monday. The HMWS&SB was trying to address the problem of frequent sewerage.

The board said the collapse had caused severe damage to the pipes. Officials identified that continuous rainfall had caused rainwater to mix with sewage and flow in large volumes, leading to the damage.

Officials closed the road and put up barricades at the site. They said the repair work would be completed within the three days days. In the meantime, the sewage flow is being diverted towards the downstream manhole to prevent any stagnation.

On being informed, board managing director K. Ashok Reddy directed officials to carry out repairs without delay.
