Hyderabad:A public interest litigation has been filed before the Telangana High Court complaining of the inaction of the education department and Intermediate Board of Education against private junior colleges which were conducting physical or online classes during the summer vacation.
The petitioner, Bandela Kranthi Kumar, submitted that the private colleges were violating the mandate of the Board of the Intermediate Education in the matter. C.R. Sukumar, counsel representing the petitioner, submitted that the authorities had remained silent and and were giving a free hand to such colleges to exploit students.
Counsel also said that students who have recently completed Class 10 were prematurely offered admissions in the private colleges without following norms. A few had commenced classes before declaration of the SSC results.
Excessive academic sessions without mandated breaks lead to enormous stress, mental health ailments, burnouts, anxiety, depression and even suicidal tendencies amongst students, the petitioner stated. He also submitted that several representation had been made by him to the TSBIE to take action against the private colleges which were conducting the classes in summer vacation as well as on Sundays and other holidays but the authorities had failed to take action. He had therefore approached the Supreme Court.
