Pharmacists Play Key Role In Healthcare, Says Minister

HYDERABAD: Pharmacists play a key role in ensuring safe and quality medicines and guiding patients on their proper use, health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said on the occasion of World Pharmacists Day on Friday.
The minister said pharmacists, along with doctors and nurses, are an important part of the healthcare system. Their role includes ensuring the availability of medicines, dispensing them in prescribed doses and creating awareness among patients about their proper use.
He noted that the theme for World Pharmacists Day 2026 — Pharmacists: Partners in Strengthening Health Systems — highlights their contribution to healthcare delivery. The Telangana government, he said, was taking steps to strengthen the profession, improve the availability of medicines, promote pharmacy education and fill pharmacist posts in phases at hospitals and medical stores in government health centres.
The government was committed to providing pharmacists with recognition and opportunities, he said. Recalling their role during the Covid‑19 pandemic, Rajanarsimha said their services and commitment would be remembered, and urged that government pharmacy officers’ participation in public health programmes be expanded.
