Former minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Monday said the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has turned Section 22A of the Registration Act into a tool to harass people and open doors for corruption.

“Lakhs of private and government lands have been arbitrarily included in the prohibited list under Section 22A, resulting in widespread confusion among people over their own properties. We demand that the government release a white paper on all lands added to the prohibited list since December 7, 2023,” he said.

During an informal chat with reporters at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao said “there was a sudden realisation that Revanth Reddy’s house too is in this list and now the government is saying it is looking into the whole issue.

“The situation has become so chaotic that even properties that were cleared in 2008 under the Urban Land Ceiling Act were brought back into the prohibited list. On what basis is this government done that? The word doing the rounds is that if a property is to be removed from the list, then there is a ’30 per cent charge’ for it,” Harish Rao said.

He also said that whenever he raised questions backed by documents and figures about the government’s alleged failures and irregularities, the Chief Minister resorted to personal attacks instead of answering them.

He also said that whenever he raises questions backed by data and documents, the Chief Minister launches personal attacks on him. Refuting allegations concerning his visits to temples, Harish Rao said “going to a temple for darshan is being portrayed as something sinister. If the Chief Minister has any evidence that I performed any such alleged rituals, let him immediately place the evidence before the public,” Harish Rao said.
