Nizamabad: Leaders of all major political parties are gearing up to contest the forthcoming municipal elections, following indications from the State government that urban local body polls will be conducted soon. Political activity has intensified across towns, with leaders making early preparations for the elections.

The smooth conduct of the recent gram panchayat elections has boosted confidence among political leaders, encouraging them to prepare for the upcoming mandal, zilla parishad, and municipal elections. In Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, preparations are underway for polls to the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation and municipalities including Bodhan, Kamareddy, Armoor, Banswada, Bheemgal, and Yellareddy.

Urban-based leaders across party lines have shown keen interest in contesting the elections. With municipal councils absent for a prolonged period in many towns, residents are also eager to elect new mayors, chairpersons, municipal corporators, and councillors.

Leaders of the ruling Congress have begun consultations with respective MLAs and Assembly constituency in-charges as part of their election strategy. The BJP, which failed to make significant gains in the gram panchayat elections, is keen to improve its performance in the municipal polls. The BRS and other parties have also stepped up efforts, viewing the municipal elections as crucial for regaining political ground.
