The High Court also issued notice to the complainant, BJP state general secretary Kasam Venkateswarlu, who filed the private complaint before the trial court.
Hyderabad: Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Friday dispensed with the personal appearance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy before the Principal Special Judicial First Class Magistrate for Excise Cases here, in relation to a criminal case for making defamatory remarks against the BJP regarding reservations and displaying a morphed video of Union minister Amit Shah, during the Lok Sabha elections campaign last yaer.
The High Court also issued notice to the complainant, BJP state general secretary Kasam Venkateswarlu, who filed the private complaint before the trial court.
Revanth Reddy approached the High Court seeking quashing of the proceedings. Justice Lakshman was not inclined to quash the proceedings without hearing the other side. The judge observed: “since the petitioner is the Chief Minister of Telangana State, how can he appear before the court? Hence, the CM's appearance before the court is dispensed with.”
