Congress Leads Phase 2 Sarpanch Count, Continues Winning Streak
By 5 PM, Congress-supported candidates had established a significant lead, securing over 600 Sarpanch posts in this phase
Hyderabad: The Congress party has continued to strengthen its influence in Telangana's local body politics, maintaining its winning streak in the second phase of the Gram Panchayat elections. Voting for 3,911 Sarpanch and 29,917 Ward Member seats across 193 mandals concluded at 1 PM on Sunday, with the counting process beginning an hour later.
By 5 PM, Congress-supported candidates had established a significant lead, securing over 600 Sarpanch posts in this phase. This robust performance signals the party's growing organizational strength in rural Telangana, following its recent victory in the state Assembly elections.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi-backed candidates won more than 200 Sarpanch positions, while nominees supported by the BJP claimed about 70 seats. Despite a competitive field, with other political parties and independent candidates collectively winning over 200 Sarpanch positions, the Congress clearly dominated the ongoing Panchayat polls.
