Paddy Shifting Expedited Ahead of Rains

The minister said procurement operations would continue till June 15, as harvesting has been delayed in Kotapalli and Chennur areas. He said 1.13 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured in 2022-23, while procurement has reached 1.27 lakh metric tonnes so far this season.

 Adilabad: District authorities have intensified efforts to clear paddy stocks at procurement centres ahead of the onset of rains by expediting unloading and transportation to rice mills and godowns.

Collectors are visiting rice mills to monitor the process, while officials are ensuring that paddy brought to IKP centres is moved without delay to prevent damage due to rain. Labour and mines minister Gaddam Vivek, along with district collector Kumar Deepak, inspected a procurement centre at Bavuraopet in Chennur mandal on Thursday.

The minister assured farmers that the government would procure “the last grain” and asked them not to panic. He said steps were being taken to shift paddy to safe locations before rains. He said average yield, which is usually about 25 quintals per acre, has increased to 28-32 quintals per acre this season.

The minister said procurement operations would continue till June 15, as harvesting has been delayed in Kotapalli and Chennur areas. He said 1.13 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured in 2022-23, while procurement has reached 1.27 lakh metric tonnes so far this season.

He added that an additional 30,000 to 40,000 metric tonnes is expected to be procured by June 6. The ongoing exercise is aimed at completing procurement and safeguarding stocks before the rains.
