Hyderabad: Paddy procurement for Rabi 2025‑26 has crossed 40 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in Telangana, benefitting over 5.5 lakh farmers through direct payments of ₹6,566 crore into their bank accounts.

Five districts — Nizamabad (6.20 LMT), Nalgonda (5.51 LMT), Kamareddy (3.03 LMT), Suryapet (2.70 LMT) and Peddapalli (2.20 LMT) — recorded the highest volumes, together accounting for 40.3 LMT against the state’s target of 90 LMT.

To prevent storage bottlenecks and keep procurement centres ready for daily arrivals, the civil supplies department has deployed 12,000 transport vehicles, including lorries, tractors and DCMs, to move grain swiftly from centres to mills.

Officials said farmers are bringing in both fine and coarse varieties. So far, 11 LMT of fine grain (Sannarakam) has been procured, representing 92 per cent of arrivals, while 29 LMT of coarse grain (Doddurakam) accounts for 81 per cent.

A network of 8,575 procurement centres is operating across districts. Of these, 4,455 PACS‑run centres have handled 24 LMT, 3,563 IKP centres 14 LMT, and 557 others 2 LMT. Civil supplies commissioner Stephen Raveendra said 18.6 crore gunny bags and adequate tarpaulins have been positioned to safeguard produce.

Farmers can contact the civil supplies department’s toll‑free helpline 1967 for queries or assistance.
