Hyderabad:Questioning the Election Commission of India’s claim that its key special intensive revision (SIR) decisions were unanimous, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi demanded clarity over allegations of internal rift. He asked whether the decisions were actually made by majority vote.
Speaking to the media at Darussalam, the party headquarters, the Hyderabad MP reiterated that the SIR exercise acts as a “backdoor NRC”, placing an unfair documentation burden on poor electors, migrants, women and minorities. He questioned how families could establish voter inclusion lineage if parents’ or grandparents’ names were missing from the rolls.
Pointing out that nearly 6.5 crore names were deleted across 13 states and Union Territories under the SIR drive, Asad argued that deletion should not automatically affect a person’s citizenship status. He also raised concerns regarding changes made to Form 6, the role of BLOs, and the security and increasing centralisation of electoral databases like ECINet and ERONet.
