Owaisi Opposes Downgrading Of Hyderabad GPO
Owaisi described Hyderabad GPO as a century old institution integral to the city’s postal network: Reports
HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the Union ministry of communications to withdraw its proposal to downgrade the Hyderabad General Post Office (GPO) from Group A to Group B and merge it with the Hyderabad City Division.
In a letter to minister of state for communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Saturday, Owaisi emphasised the historical significance, extensive workload and central role of Hyderabad GPO in providing postal services to the city’s population. He urged continuation of its independent Group A status.
Owaisi described Hyderabad GPO as a century‑old institution integral to the city’s postal network. He highlighted that Telangana’s Philatelic Bureau is located at the GPO, stressing its institutional importance before any administrative changes.
“In wake of the heritage value, metropolitan importance and vital public‑facing role of Hyderabad GPO in Telangana, which is located in my Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency, I request your kind intervention to ensure that the proposal for its downgrading and merger is dropped and that Hyderabad GPO continues as an independent Group A GPO under Chief Postmaster,” he stated.
