Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said his government would not pursue “sample welfare schemes” as practised by the previous BRS regime, but would ensure welfare on a “saturation basis” so that every eligible person benefits without restriction.

In an informal interaction with the media on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said welfare must be universal and simultaneous, unlike the BRS model, which he alleged confined benefits to select groups by imposing conditions.

Revanth Reddy said the Congress government was implementing schemes such as sanna biyyam (fine rice), Indiramma houses, ration cards and Rythu Bharosa in saturation mode, reaching all eligible people. In contrast, he accused the BRS of restricting the benefits of 2BHK houses, fine rice distribution, ration cards, Dalit Bandhu and Rythu Bandhu to only a few hundred or thousand beneficiaries in each Assembly constituency, leaving the majority outside the fold.

He made it clear that the Congress government would launch or continue a welfare scheme only if it could cover the entire eligible population. “Welfare schemes are not sample schemes to be delivered to a select few. Our policy is clear — a scheme must reach the last beneficiary at the same time, else we will not implement it,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that the government had initiated distribution of new ration cards to all eligible households, construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses annually, free supply of fine rice to all ration card holders and Rythu Bharosa for both land-owning farmers and tenant cultivators.

On other issues, Revanth Reddy said the government was awaiting Supreme Court directions on the Telangana 42 per cent BC Reservation Bill, which is pending with the President of India. As per the apex court’s order, he said, it should be cleared within 90 days. If delays persist, he cautioned, Congress may be compelled to seek a fresh mandate. A final decision will be taken at the party’s Political Affairs Committee meeting on August 23, he added.
