Hyderabad:BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao recalled a defining moment from 1993 in Tarnaka, where he stood up against the demolition of a shop by nearly 100 reserved-category police personnel. His intervention led to lathicharges, arrest and prolonged legal battles. Severely injured during the police action, he underwent major surgery and remained hospitalised for nearly two months.

During this period, lawyers across the then undivided Andhra Pradesh launched a 43-day court boycott to protest police excesses. Though personally opposed to such actions, Ramchander Rao supported the collective move after a senior advocate was also injured.

The united stand led to the formation of a judicial commission. Recalling the episode, he described the legal fraternity as his extended family and underscored its vital role in upholding justice.

Speaking at a felicitation event organised by the BJP legal cell at the party’s state office, Ramchander Rao highlighted the BJP’s pivotal role in the formation of Telangana. He said the statehood movement would not have succeeded without the BJP’s intervention.

He recounted how he, along with senior advocates and political leaders, held discussions with national leaders such as Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Prakash Javadekar to ensure the Telangana Bill passed smoothly in Parliament.

He criticised the former BRS regime and the current Congress government for failing to uphold the interests of lawyers, students, farmers and the broader public. He asserted that only the BJP has the vision and capability to transform Telangana into a truly developed state.

Calling for a united front against anti-people policies, Ramchander Rao urged lawyers to once again lead a ‘dharma yuddha’ (righteous battle) and work towards establishing a BJP government in the state. Emphasising their political awareness and social influence, he appealed for mass enrolment of legal professionals into the party to help bring about governance reform and progress.
