NIZAMABAD: There is a leadership struggle within the Congress party in the Nizamabad Urban assembly constituency. Multiple leaders are trying to gain an upper hand within the party.
Among the senior leaders are Mohammad Ali Shabbir, MLA P. Sudarshan Reddy, MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and Taher Bin Hamdan. As per party norms, defeated MLA candidate Mohammad Ali Shabbir is acting as the constituency in-charge of Nizamabad Urban area. But MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud and MLA Sudarshan Reddy are butting into the party affairs.
After former Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas resigned from the Congress party, Nizamabad Urban constituency has lost a guiding leader.
In 2014 and 2018 assembly elections, B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and Taher Bin Hamdan contested as Congress candidates from Nizamabad Urban assembly constituency and lost. In 2023 assembly elections, Mohammad Ali Shabbir contested from Nizamabad Urban. But he too lost.

For example, in a latest development, adviser to the state government Mohammad Ali Shabbir inaugurated his camp office in Nizamabad on Wednesday to be available to party cadres and the general public. The move has led to speculation on what next step Mahesh Kumar Goud and Sudarshan Reddy are going to take.
