NRR Questions Delay In Jawaharnagar Capping
Rajender launched the four-day, 60-km padayatra from Lakshminarayana Cheruvu, demanding relocation of the dumpyard: Reports
HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday asked why the state government had not carried out scientific capping of the Jawaharnagar dumping yard as directed by the National Green Tribunal. He said the government must explain the delay in implementing the tribunal’s orders.
Speaking after joining Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender’s ‘Chalo Jawaharnagar’ padayatra at Edulabad, Rao said the march sought a permanent solution to a problem affecting residents’ health. He alleged that pollution and foul odour had made life unbearable in Cherial and Edulabad, while contaminated groundwater had affected the lake and fish catch.
Rajender launched the four-day, 60-km padayatra from Lakshminarayana Cheruvu, demanding relocation of the dumpyard. Addressing a public meeting, he alleged that leachate was killing fish and livestock, while residents suffered respiratory, kidney and skin ailments. Cancer deaths had been reported, he said.
Rajender said he had sought an appointment with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who had earlier represented Malkajgiri and filed cases in the Supreme Court and NGT, but no response had come even after a month.
Demanding a ₹3,000-crore package, he asked the government to prepare a project report to process waste with modern technology, including converting wet waste into manure and dry waste into power. He warned that the agitation would continue until the dumpyard was shifted.
