NRR Accuses Congress of Shielding Illegal Vote Banks

 Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress government of making “another attempt of appeasement” by issuing Family Register Certificates (FRC), which he described as a backdoor move to legalise illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshis settled in the state. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was acting under AIMIM’s diktat and using the FRC to protect illegal vote banks during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.

Rao said the state government was projecting the Family Register Certificate as a valid document for “undocumented people,” but it could not be treated as proof of Indian citizenship. He warned that ration cards, Aadhaar entries or family registers only record family composition and do not establish nationality. Expanding the use of such certificates during the SIR process, he said, would create scope for manipulation, inclusion of ineligible names and dilution of electoral scrutiny.

The BJP leader said the Congress, BRS and AIMIM had for years sheltered illegal vote banks, and the current move was aimed at shielding them from deletion in the revision of rolls. He also raised national security concerns, arguing that any certification without proper citizenship verification could facilitate the integration of illegal immigrants into the administrative framework. Rao said the BJP would not allow a single illegal Bangladeshi, Pakistani or Rohingya to be enrolled in Telangana or anywhere in India and would challenge the issue in both courts and on the streets.

Meanwhile, addressing a get‑together (Atmiya Sammelan) in Huzurabad, Rao said people from all walks of life were joining the BJP because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developmental and welfare agenda. Welcoming former IRS officer Sudhakar Reddy into the party, he said educated and experienced professionals were choosing the BJP as a platform for national service. Rao added that the party was steadily gaining ground in villages and would form a government in Telangana in the coming days.

Rao has also received an invitation from the American Telugu Association to attend its 19th general body meeting and youth convention in Baltimore from July 31 to August 2, 2026. The ATA invited him as a distinguished guest for the event, which will focus on investment opportunities in Telangana in IT, tourism, digital services and startups.
