HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Friday accused the Congress and the BRS of striking a “quid pro quo” deal to shield each other’s corruption, saying the public was losing out while the two parties traded blame.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Rao said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks on BRS leaders’ assets and the BRS counter‑allegations on Congress corruption amounted to a “you ate, I ate” fight that helped no one. He recalled the Congress promise to act on BRS corruption within 100 days of coming to power and asked why not even one arrest had been made so far.

Rao said the state government had failed on public issues and was using police to silence those who questioned it. He cited GO 190, brought as an alternative to the controversial GO 317 on teachers, and claimed that of nearly 4,000 eligible for transfers or deputations, only 100–200 had been covered. He condemned the arrest of teachers protesting peacefully near Gandhi Bhavan and demanded that their legitimate demands be met.

On farmers’ plight due to the El Nino impact, Rao said fields were drying in many areas due to lack of water and power, and called the situation in Nalgonda especially grim. He urged the government to release one instalment of Rythu Bharosa before the Rabi season and credit it directly to farmers’ accounts. He also blamed the state for not paying the premium for the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and said the Warangal “farmer declaration” promise of a better insurance scheme remained unfulfilled.

Rao said people were tired of Congress and BRS and now saw BJP as the alternative in Telangana. Earlier, a number of TV and film personalities including TV artiste and lawyer Swarnalatha, prominent TV actor Laxman, and senior cinematographers Suresh and Mahesh joined the party under the leadership of BJP State Cinema Cell co‑convenor and actor Vaibhav Surya. Rao welcomed them into the party by offering scarves.

He also took part in a Swachh Bharat event and a Senior Citizens Day programme, calling for citizen participation in cleanliness and greater support for the elderly. Party state secretary Bharat Prasad, BJP chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash, spokesperson Indrasena Reddy, Kisan Morcha state president Baswapuram Laxmi Narsaiah and others participated.
