Hyderabad: The northern districts recorded significantly cold temperatures, with Adilabad’s Bheempoor mandal being the coldest with a low of 7.7°C on Wednesday. The district had earlier recorded 5.9°C earlier this winter at Bela.

In areas around University of Hyderabad in the city — including Gulmohar Park Colony, TNGO Colony, and parts of Osmania University — the mercury dipped to 8.9°C on December 9. Residents were adjusting to the chill by wearing heavier clothes, enjoying warm beverages, and switching off even ceiling fans in their houses.

Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Medak, and Nirmal also experienced temperatures dipping into the single digits.

Komaram Bheem Asifabad’s Kerameri recorded 7.9°C, and Medak 8.5°C. These districts are significantly colder than much of the state.

“The mornings and evenings have become quite chilly. We never expected such a drop, but it’s also a chance to enjoy some cozy winter moments,” said Mahender Reddy, a resident of Nirmal.

Tourists from Hyderabad are taking advantage of the cold weather, flocking to scenic winter retreats like Ananthagiri Hills in Vikarabad, known for its cool climate, lush greenery, hiking trails, and historic temples.

The local meteorological department predicts that minimum temperatures across isolated areas in Telangana will remain 3°C to 4°C below normal for the next two to three days, keeping the cold wave intact.
