Non-Fossil Fuel Power Crosses 300 GW; Centre Pushes for Faster Clean Energy Transition
Centre calls for faster clean-energy action as states unveil renewable investment plans
Hyderabad: The Centre on Monday called for faster action on clean energy, as India's installed non-fossil fuel capacity crossed the 300 gigawatt (GW) mark and the government pushes toward its 2030 target of 500 GW.
Anupam Kumar, joint secretary at the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said solar contributed around 165 GW and wind energy was touching 58 GW. He added, "The next four years are a period for building an entire energy ecosystem rather than simply adding megawatts.” He was speaking at the Hyderabad edition of the roadshow for the Bharat Renewable Energy (BRE) Summit.
The BRE Summit and Expo is scheduled from November 2 to 5 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Delhi summit will run alongside the ninth session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen, and organisers expect participants from over 75 countries and more than 400 exhibitors.
Officials from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu laid out their states' plans at the event. Musharraf Ali Faruqui, vice-chairman and managing director of Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (RGRedco), pointed to Telangana's Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025 and the state's existing 8 GW of renewable capacity. Around Rs 30,000 crore of investment had been promised in the state's renewable sector, he said, with more expected. "We will taken an active part in the BRE Summit," he said, inviting manufacturers and investors to set up plants in the state
