Nizamabad: A fourth-year MBBS student, Rahul Reddy, hailing from Patancheru near Hyderabad, has alleged ragging and assault by senior students at the Government Medical College in Nizamabad.

According to a video statement, Rahul said that accused seniors, who are house surgeons, of assaulting him on Saturday when he questioned them for wrongly marking absent for work at the Government General Hospital, Nizamabad, where was deployed as part of his academic schedule.
According to the student, the seniors retorted to his protest asking if he was going to get them suspended and assaulted him as a group. During the incident, which reportedly lasted for 30 minutes, the student said he was ragged and intimidated.
Rahul claimed that the seniors had forcibly taken away his mobile phone and did not let him leave even when he said that he was suffering from jaundice.
Based on his complaint, the One Town Police in Nizamabad have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, station house officer Ragupathi confirmed that a case has been registered based on the student's complaint which stated that he was beaten up and harassed by his seniors.
However, the college administration has taken a different stance. According to vice-principal (administration) Dr J Tirupati Rao, it was a "personal issue" and a "dispute between students". He claimed that "it is 100 percent not a ragging case."
