Niloufer doctors save mother and baby in rare placenta percreta surgery
Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha praised the medical team, including hospital superintendent Dr Ravi Kumar, for their efforts in this challenging surgery
Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman battling a life-threatening pregnancy complication underwent a rare and complex surgery at Niloufer Hospital, that saved both her life and that of her premature baby. She was 27 weeks pregnant.
The patient from Vikarabad was admitted on February 1 after being referred from a private hospital due to severe bleeding. She was diagnosed with ‘G4 placenta percreta with bladder invasion’, a condition where the placenta deeply penetrates the uterine wall and invades the bladder, posing life-threatening risks to the mother.
On February 10, doctors performed an elective Cesarean section along with a complex bladder repair. During the procedure, she gave birth to a premature baby boy weighing one kilogram, who is currently receiving care in the NICU.
The hospital’s gynaecologists and urologists worked together to repair the bladder. Doctors have confirmed that the mother’s condition is stable. Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha praised the medical team, including hospital superintendent Dr Ravi Kumar, for their efforts in this challenging surgery.
