Hyderabad: The father of Nikitha Godishala, who was found dead in the US, here on Monday, urged the Centre and Telangana government to help in bringing back her mortal remains.

Nikitha Godishala of Ellicott City in Maryland was reported missing on January 2. A native of Vijayapuri Colony in Tarnaka in Hyderabad, she had moved to the US four years ago. She was found dead with stab wounds in the apartment of her alleged ex-boyfriend, Arjun Sharma, 26 in Columbia, Maryland.

Nikitha’s father, Anand Godishala, denied that Arjun Sharma was her ex-boyfriend. “It is being shown that he is an ex-boyfriend. It is nothing of that sort,” he said. He clarified that Sharma was her former roommate and that media reports portraying him as her ex-boyfriend were incorrect. According to Anand, Sharma had earlier lived in the apartment along with two other individuals. He said the family came to know through media reports that Sharma, who had allegedly taken heavy loans, including from his daughter, fled to India after committing the murder. "We request the Central and the state governments to help in bringing her mortal remains soon," he urged.

The Howard County police on Sunday obtained a warrant for Sharma's arrest on first and second-degree murder charges, alleging that he killed her and fled to India.
