Construction of the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) at Goshamahal has reached around 25 per cent, with cellar works nearing completion and ground-floor construction underway in four buildings, according to an official source.

The project being undertaken by MEIL, which is targeted for completion by December 31, 2027, has seen a sharp increase in the workforce. The number of workers has been increased from around 250 to nearly 2,000 to speed up construction.

The new hospital is being built on 22.7 acres and will comprise nine buildings. The main hospital block will have around 23 lakh square feet of built-up area, while the other buildings, including the academic block, male and female hostels, dharamshala and utility block, will together account for around 10 lakh square feet.

The 2,000-bed hospital will increase the existing capacity from 1,168 beds and will include a 500-bed intensive care unit. The facility will have 29 operating theatres and 30 departments, including eight new specialty wings.

The campus will also house dental, nursing and physiotherapy colleges, along with hostel facilities. A dharmashala will be provided for attendants, besides landscaped areas and wider access roads.

The project also includes a three-level underground parking facility with capacity for around 3,000 vehicles and a skywalk for movement within the campus. A fire station, power substation and police outpost are also planned on the premises, along with a 750-seat auditorium. Advanced construction technology and building information modelling are being used in the project, the official said.
