Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao said that employment guarantee schemes being implementated since the 1960s, had structural flaws, leakage and corruption. The Narendra Modi government legislated the VB G RAM G Act, integrated with modern technology for transparency and accountability, to rectify the defects.
Rao was speaking on the new legislation at a workshop organised by the BJP Kisan Morcha here. He said changes to old welfare models were necessary to align with the changing economic realities, making the G RAM G Act not just necessary but inevitable.
Rao questioned the Congress's sudden affection for Mahatma Gandhi’s name, as it was protesting the renaming of the MGNREGA. He wanted to know why the Hyderabad airport was named after Rajiv Gandhi and not after Mahatma Gandhi.
He noted that the 60:40 sharing model under the G RAM G Act would increase responsibility, financial discipline, and accountability of the states.
He listed Rao scams under the MGNREGA during the UPA regime and said that under the G RAM G Act employment guarantee days has been increased from 100 to 125, 50 of them through gram panchayats and gram sabhas to create village development plan and eliminating leakages through mandatory biometric verification, GPS satellite monitoring, AI based fraud detection and weekly public announcements.
The workshop was attended by BJP secretary Om Prakash Dhankar, state leaders Dr N. Gautam Rao, Chandrashekhar Tiwari, state Kisan Morcha president Baswapuram Laxminarsaiah, Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, Goli Madhusudhan Reddy and Papayya Goud.
