Kishan Reddy unveils special poster to honour sacrifice of Imam Hussain

Hyderabad: Union coal and mines minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday unveiled a special poster for Arbaeen-2025, which marks the end of a 40-day mourning period observed by Shia Muslims to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala.

The ceremony was attended by BJP state spokesperson Mir Firasath Ali Baqri, along with community representatives Syed Rehan Hyder and Tahaur Ali Zaidi.

A message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying a heartfelt tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain was conveyed. Modi noted that Imam Hussain’s supreme sacrifice stood as a timeless testament to unwavering commitment to righteousness, inspiring generations to uphold truth and moral courage in the face of adversity.

Speaking at the event, Mir Firasath Ali Baqri highlighted the deep religious significance of Arbaeen, which is observed 40 days after Ashura — the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad and the revered third Shia Imam.

He recalled the historic Battle of Karbala in 61 Hijri, where Imam Hussain, along with his family members and companions, was martyred after refusing to pledge allegiance to the Umayyad Caliph Yazid, an act remembered as a defining stand for justice, truth, and moral integrity.

In the Shia sect of Islam, the remembrance of Karbala and the observance of Arbaeen symbolise the eternal struggle between good and evil, embodying the ideals of self-sacrifice and resistance to oppression.

National Lok Adalat for settling cases on Sept. 13

Hyderabad: Telangana will organise the National Lok Adalat on September 13, across the state, offering people a chance to settle disputes quickly, peacefully, and without any expense. The Lok Adalat, overseen by legal experts and dignitaries, focuses on providing justice through mutual consent, avoiding long court battles.

A wide range of cases can be resolved through this platform, including matrimonial disputes, maintenance claims, harassment and domestic violence cases, civil matters, land disputes, compoundable criminal cases, and cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Settlements reached in Lok Adalat are final, with no provision for appeal, and parties can also receive a refund of any court fees already paid.

“Public awareness about Lok Adalat is still incomplete and can be improved through media, local campaigns, and publications. The process here is quicker, free, informal, and based on mutual agreement, with no provision for appeal. It works best for cases like cheque bounce, family issues, accident claims, and bank recoveries. People can approach the Legal Services Authority, submit their case, and proceed if both sides agree,” said Nandigama Narender, legal aid contributor at the Office of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System, Rangareddy district court.

For cases pending in court, either party can request the judge to refer the matter to Lok Adalat if there is a chance of settlement. Disputes that have not yet reached the court can be resolved at the pre-litigation stage by approaching the District or State Legal Services Authority.

Officials have urged the public to use this opportunity for speedy justice in a cordial setting. Litigants can contact the nearest legal services institution at their local court complex for more details and to register their cases for the upcoming National Lok Adalat.

GHMC invites bids to beautify Durgam Cheruvu seating area

Hyderabad: The GHMC has invited sealed quotations for a major beautification project at the Durgam Cheruvu. The project includes installing new artistic seating such as wave-shaped benches, twin harmony benches, and ergonomic designs that will be both comfortable and durable. Many of these seats will be integrated with planters to bring greenery closer to visitors.

A variety of pots and planters in different sizes and shapes — including cylindrical, rectangular, apple-shaped, and cluster styles — will be placed throughout the area to enhance the look and feel of the open space.

One of the key attractions will be a dancing sequence fountain, equipped with stainless steel nozzles, granite finishes, waterproofing, high-capacity pumps, and a control panel to program different water patterns. The fountain will be fitted with underwater LED lights that are water-resistant and designed for long-term use, adding a colourful visual element during evenings.

Decorative cascades and sculptures will also be installed, blending modern art with nature to create an inviting atmosphere for residents and tourists.

According to GHMC, all materials and installations will be made to withstand heavy usage, harsh weather conditions, and prolonged exposure to sunlight. The aim is to combine comfort with visual appeal, turning the urban seating zone into a vibrant hangout spot for people of all ages.
