Teachers’ union calls to strengthen govt schools
Hyderabad: School Teachers Federation of India (STFI) national general secretary Chava Ravi called on teachers, students and intellectuals to unite against the growing “corporatisation” of education. Speaking at the 26th foundation day of STFI, Ravi urged strengthening public education and rejecting policies favouring private corporate schools.
He noted a steady decline in government school enrolments, while private corporate school admissions continue to rise. “Governments are cutting budgets for government schools, leaving teacher vacancies unfilled and easing regulations for corporate schools. These steps encourage commercialisation and widen social inequality,” he said.
The event was attended by TSUTF state general secretary A. Venkat, senior leader M. Samyukta, state secretary A. Simhachalam, women’s convenor Sharada and others.
