Hyderabad: Telangana made a notable impact at the ‘Urja Manthan 2025’ national energy conference held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, said a statement from the state government on Thursday. The event, organised by the ministry of petroleum and natural gas, brought together ministers from 22 states to deliberate on clean fuel, energy security and enhanced Centre–state coordination. The conference was chaired by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Representing Telangana, IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu outlined the state’s clean energy vision and urged deeper collaboration with the Central government. He showcased Telangana’s progress under its Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025 and emphasised the importance of joint efforts to build a sustainable energy future for the country.

During his address, Sridhar Babu called for expanding the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network beyond Hyderabad to tier-2 towns to ensure wider access to clean fuel. He urged the Centre to invest more in Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL) and establish additional CNG stations to strengthen piped gas infrastructure in both urban and semi-urban areas.

The minister also proposed co-funding of new LNG and CNG terminals by the Centre and State to meet the growing fuel needs of households and industries. Citing Telangana’s strong agricultural base, he suggested setting up Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants to convert agri-waste into clean energy and called for scaling up waste-to-energy projects in agri-rich regions.

Seeking support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the minister asked the Centre to extend incentives under national missions such as SATAT and the Green Hydrogen Mission. He highlighted Telangana’s strategic location along the East–West gas pipeline corridor and called for Central funding to bolster infrastructure and promote gas-based industries.

“Telangana is committed to contributing to India’s energy security and aims to be a national model for stable, sustainable and affordable clean energy,” the minister said, adding that the state’s proactive policies, strong digital infrastructure, and industrial readiness position it to lead the clean energy revolution.
